Beetroot Power Juice

One of the things I like so much about red beets is that there available throughout the year. Beets do have an ”official season” though, their season runs from June through October when the youngest, most tender beets are available.

I love beets in the summer as a cold soup or a refreshing cold juice with apples, but when it is getting colder outside I love beets to support my body while fighting off viruses. As I tend to travel a lot fresh beet juice also supports me to stay as healthy and energetic as possible. This power beetroot, cucumber and ginger juice is amazing.

It’s such an easy thing to add into your (morning) routine as it takes five minutes to make and the ingredients are also easy to find. Each sip is so wonderfully soothing and revitalising! I can feel my body soaking up all the nutrients.

Juicing is the best way to feed your cells as it removes the fibre from the fruits and vegetables, which means that all the vitamins, minerals and enzymes are absorbed straight into your bloodstream much quicker and in much more highly concentrated doses than if you would eat the equivalent amount. Plus, juicing gives your digestive system a break too, which can be good if you are stressed or sick. So a juice really is a perfect pick-me-up when you’re feeling tired.

Don’t worry about the taste though! Despite the fact it is a juice quite high in veggies, the apple and carrots make this juice sweet and the ginger gives it a nice kick.  The color is pretty incredible too if you are like me making pictures of all your food!

Beets

Red beets are a cheap superfood and (when consumed raw) high in carbohydrates, that will leave you with instant energy and are packed with antioxidants. Furthermore, red beets contain magnesium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and calcium. They also provide you with vitamin A, C , niacin (a vitamin B), and folic acid (good for your blood cells). Beets are a good way to detoxify the body. The betacyanin in beets can help detox your liver and when your liver is ok your body is ok and will detox itself. The betaine in beets will lift your mood. Some amazing benefits, right? The iron in beetroot is especially good for energy and fatigue fighting too as it allows your body to carry more oxygen to all the cells, allowing them to function more efficiently.

Chlorophyll

The chlorophyll you’ll be having from the cucumber and celery, works great to alkalise your body, oxygenate your blood, flush out toxins, to boost your immune system and reduce inflammation.

While the carrots provide you with incredible amounts of immune-boosting vitamin A, the ginger calms and soothes the digestive system. The apple will provide you with more antioxidants as well as anti-inflammatory benefits.

Not bad for one glass of juice, right?

Description

A fresh, sweet and energizing beetroot juice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 fresh raw beetroot
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 sticks of celery
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 red apple
  • an inch of ginger

Instructions

  1. The only preparation you need to do is to wash and chop the leaves off the beetroot and peel away the outer layer of dirt and thicker skin, then chop the leaves off the celery. Once this is done simply put everything through the juicer and enjoy!
  2. The juice of just pure beets is extremely powerful. So powerful it can make you drunk just after one glass. So always mix it with some apples or carrots.
