Green smoothie without greens

Green smoothie without greens

What better way to start the New Year than with a green smoothie? This winter I have been having kiwis every day. Kiwis are yummy and amazingly healthy! So let’s kick start this New Year with a super delicious and healthy kiwi smoothie. We will make a green smoothie today without any greens! Did I just go crazy? Nope…Read on if you would like to have a taste of this healthy, green, sweet and filling smoothie.

For this smoothie you will need:

  • 2 bananas
  • 4 to 5 kiwi’s
  • 4 medjool dates (preferably soaked in water for 10 to 20 min)
  • half a cup of water

Blend the bananas and the kiwis with a little bit of water. Just enough for the blender to blend. With a powerful blender you might not need water at all. You want a thick smoothie.
Then blend separately the dates with as little water as possible, just to make a paste  like consistency.
Blend these two separately so you can layer them.
Finish off with some slices of kiwi and you are ready to enjoy this extremely healthy smoothie.

I always recommend to eat as much fruit as possible in the morning on an empty stomach. This will leave you all day long with energy and is the best moment for your body to absorb the health benefits of fruit.

So why am I so crazy in love with kiwis?

Kiwis are one of the very few fruits on the planet that are green at maturity, and chlorophyll is responsible for that color. Chlorophyll ? Yes, chlorophyll. The same chlorophyll  as we found in mostly bitter greens. Can it get any better?

Let me rephrase. Kiwis contain chlorophyll. So you are actually about to make a green smoothie without any greens…

Chlorophyll  is extremely healthy and basically the source of life, of living food. Chlorophyll binds with toxic metals so is very good for detoxification. Chlorophyll also contains antioxidant properties, it protects cells from oxidative damage by eliminating free radicals, promotes iron levels, promotes healing, can fight cancer and much more….

Few other health benefits of kiwis

  • Cancer
Kiwi´s can fight cancer such as skin cancer. Kiwi´s also prevent the formation (or reformation) of plaque in the aders. Kiwis are ranked as having one of the highest natural antioxidants. Lutein, found in kiwi´s, has been linked to the prevention of prostate and lung cancer. Kiwi´s are an excellent source of dietary fiber, therefore good to prevent colorectal cancer.
  • Kiwis can fight depression
  • Immunity
Kiwis high vitamin C content along with other antioxidant compounds has been proven to boost the immune system.
  • Helps manage blood pressure
  • Enzymes
Raw kiwi contains actinidain, an enzyme that can help digest a meal much like the papain in papaya or bromelain in pineapple
  • Weight loss
Kiwis low glycemic index and high fiber content means it will not create a strong insulin rush like other fruit with high sugar contents — so the body will not respond by storing fat.
  • Helps fight heart disease
  • Suitable for diabetics
Kiwi is in the ‘low’ category for glycemic index, meaning it does not raise your blood sugar quickly. It has a glycemic load of 4 which means it is safe for diabetics.
  • Protects against eye problems
  • Skin
Kiwis are a good source of vitamin E, an antioxidant known to protect skin from degeneration.
  • Naturally organic
Kiwi is on the list of foods that are generally safe from a lot of pesticide residues.

I hope you will enjoy this smoothie with delicious date paste as much as I did!
