Can you believe it will be December in just a few weeks? When December is approaching I feel the need to read (even) more books. Especially books that will bring out the best in people and books that focus on happiness and gratitude are the ones I can’t seem to get enough of. So yes, it’s no surprise that I have again some book recommendations for you and much more such as cold showers, hot chocolate and soap. Let’s get started, loving lately #4.

Upset and saddened is how I feel after watching ‘’Before the Flood’’. How on earth did we let it come this far? What about our next generation? What are we going to do about it?

Speaking of documentaries, a true healthy vegan foodie should watch this documentary;‘Food Choices”. I have seen quite a lot, but I have to say this one is very inspirational, starring my hero dr. Greger. It’s all about why a whole food plant based diet is so healthy and when it’s not healthy and no better than any other diet. It also answers any possible question you can have about a whole food plant based diet such as the protein- and calcium question, but also about whether it is suitable for children, if it’s expensive, if we need supplements and if it covers all the vitamines and minerals we need. A must watch and very inspirational.

Whipping up this yummy Gula Java Cacao drink that I can only describe as a healthy Nesquik, but then without the refined sugars, dextrose, soya lecithin and salt. Soap heaven is how I can describe my bathroom these days. I have never been the type that cared much about soaps, but my dr. Bronner soap obsession is getting to the next level. I have been using their liquid soap for my face for a while now, but now I’m expanding my collection with soap bars too. Dr. Bronner’s soap base is castille soap which is an all-vegetable-based soap that you can use for literally everything. Face, body, hair, clothes, veggies, for babies, animals, as a shaving cream, cleaning dishes, laundry, you can clean your house with it…It’s fully vegan, cruelty free, toxic free and I ADORE the smell. Lavendel is my favorite!

Loving Lately #4 Listening to this angelic voice during work this week. It’s the perfect holiday relax background music. And this is the song I bounced on most last week 🙂

Eager to dive into these two books. I started in ‘’The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World’’ and I love it so far. It’s not a religious book at all. It’s a story about a friendship between the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu written by Douglas Carlton Abrams. This historical meet up is about joy, about the science of what happiness means and practical tips on how you can find more joy in your life. The writer spends one week with the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu and describes this once in a life time experience very well.  The reason is probably because he is personally very much interested in the topic happiness. The love and compassion that these two men carry in their heart is remarkable. An unexpected delight is the ease with which the author bring forth their playfulness, wisdom, and truly laugh-out-loud humor, even when they are immersed in a profoundly serious topic. This video will give you an idea of the book.

The second book is ‘’When Breath Becomes Air’’ by Paul Kalanithi. This book is a reminder of how fragile life is. I think it’s very important to realize this and I do this often with books. I read through this book only half way and I already know that this book is not one you finish and forget about. A friend of mine who recommended this book to me told me: ‘’I was reading this book one morning and just had to stop. I closed the book, went down and sat down with my dog to cry’’.

Loving Lately #4

I’m all about making my immune system stronger (with a focus on the gut). I have been following the studies on cold showers a.k.a cryotherapy for some time now and I’m going to give it a try. I use cold water on my face and hair, but cold showers…. Recent study showed (again) that among men who were showering cold during the study period were 29% less often sick compared with the group who did not took the cold showers. In addition, no adverse effects were reported regarding cold shower. The researchers concluded from this that cold shower is indeed useful, because it may strengthen the immune system. I guess it’s time to get this book which has been on my wishlist for a while. Could you switch of your mind and take a super cold shower?
