Tips on how to lose weight the healthy way

When it comes to our bodies, almost everyone wants to lose some pounds. Fortunately, most of us know that dieting is a waste of time and may even be harmful to your body. There are some tips you can use to lose weight in a healthy way though.

    I strongly believe that a healthy body equals a body with a slim waist size.

These tips for losing weight in a healthy way are just a few tips to show you how to live healthier. These tips are not just temporary rules to try out. Try to live according to these rules as often as possible and you’ll notice a huge difference in how you feel and look.

 

  – Sleep –

If you sleep too little this will considerably affect your weight. If you don’t sleep enough, you’ll crave sugar more. Working out while you’re tired is therefore not always a good idea. When you’re tired, you should sleep. Not enough sleep is a perfect recipe for weight gain. When you feel tired you’re more likely to eat more (often sugary food), just to feel more energetic and before you know it you’re in a vicious circle. Sleep is very important, in my opinion just as important as exercise and food. If you sleep too often too little your brain will even function differently. You’ll take other (more impulsive) decisions, you’ll tend to eat late at night, go for fast food and will eat larger portions. In a nutshell, sleep is like food for the brains. Most people need between 7 to 9 hours per night in order to stay healthy and keep the pounds of.

– Detox –

Oh no, a detox ?! No worries, I’m not going to say you have to follow a juice cleanse to lose weight. On the contrary, you should never  follow a detox just to lose weight. Wrong motives. What I want to stress are the magical hours in the morning. Our body is doing some fantastic work while we sleep. No matter how bad you’ve been eating, night after night, your body will attempt to get rid of toxins. When we get up in the morning, this process continues. So it’s better not to abruptly stop this process with a heavy meal. You should actually optimize these hours! In the morning we produce a lot of digestive juices to clean up all the toxins. And that’s what we want! A clean body with a flat stomach. So step out of the way and let your body clean itself.  Drink luke warm water after waking up with lemon juice and follow with easy to digest foods like fruits. Smoothies are amazing in the morning, as they contain already ‘pre digested’ fruits and veggies and this means less work for our bodies and more focus on detoxification.

 

– Hydrate your body –

Drinking water helps in boosting your metabolism, it cleans your body of waste and acts as an appetite suppressant. Water also helps to stop your body with water retention, making you lose that extra few pounds (water).

– Stay away from sugar –

It doesn’t matter how well you eat, if you’re still snacking on sugary food (processed refined sugars) then losing weight will be quite difficult. Sugar causes wrinkles, will make you ill and works as an explosion of fat in your body. Run away from sugar and don’t allow it in your home. There are plenty other options, such as energy balls or these delicious brownies.

 

– Become friends with good carbohydrates –

I always cringe when I hear someone say they eat less or no carbs to lose weight. Usually they end up grumpy and tired after just a few days. Our brains and our body need good carbs, such as fruit. You may be capable of following this carb free diet perhaps for a month and you might also lose weight, but whether this will be for life and whether you’ll be happy, energetic and healthy is unlikely.

 

– Chew –

The digestion of food not only takes place in your gut. It starts in the mouth with your saliva and your teeth. Proper digestion is extremely important if you want to be healthy and lose weight. If you eat too fast, and thus chew little, you’re swallowing too much air and you will not digest food very well which will ferment in your stomach. The result? A bloated belly. And if you eat too fast, you’ll eat of course more. It’s a shame not to take full advantage of your food as well, because without chewing your food well it will go directly into your gut not allowing your body to absorb all the vitamins and minerals. Such a shame!

– Move –

Working out like a maniac might seem the best thing to do if you want to lose weight, but often has little effect in the long term. Suddenly working out very intensivly is very stressfull for your body  and you may  not lose weight. It’s better to do some strength exercises and walk more. 10.000 steps per day is perfect and great fun to keep track of!

– Relax –

Occasional stress is not that bad, but chronic stress is associated with an increase in appetite. Emotional eating is the result, but also in practical terms we are less inclined to make a healhty meal when we are stressed. In addition, our hormones react strongly to stress. This all results in poor diet choices, your body will use less energy (survival mode) and the hormone cortisol will also make sure we’re hunger all the time. So relax!

These are just a few of my tips on how to lose weight in a healthy way.  A healthy body should be your first priority  and fortunately a healthy body equals a slim body.

    Ik merk het ook altijd dat als ik meer water drink, ik een beetje ga afvallen (ben niet echt dik). Vaak voel ik me dan ook een stuk beter in mij vel… kan je nagaan wat voeding allemaal met je lichaam doet!
