Just when I thought spring would slowly arrive, I was welcomed by a super cold day this morning. It feels like winter and this flu epidemic around me seems to last forever. I can image some might not feel like having a cold smoothie. During the week I’m ok with having a fresh cold smoothie, but during the weekend I would like to have a smoothie that is a bit more warming. A winter smoothie is the perfect solution to that.
So as we sit wrapped up in scarves and sweaters try this winter smoothie. I hope I can change your mind that smoothies in the winter don’t have to be cold.
In my opinion, no matter the temperature outside, smoothies are always a great way to start the day. It’s so easy, simple and delicious to get your vitamins, minerals, and produce in liquid form. Winter smoothies are unsung heroes that need their time in the spotlight, and this smoothie with pears (or apples if you like) are the best way to showcase them.
Hopefully, with recipes like these the colder months don’t mean you have to take a break from your lifestyle full of fruits and veggies. Just experiment and add warming ingredients and seasonal superfoods.
Warming ingredients are cheap superfoods such as cinnamon, ginger and chili pepper. My absolute winter superfoods are maca, selenium and probiotics. I have to admit, I also love these superfoods during any other time of the year though.
For this smoothie you will need the following ingredients:
- 2 bananas
- 2 pears
- 250 ml almondmilk
- 100 ml water
- 10 mint leaves
Blend en enjoy! The ginger is so warming! If you use a capsule of a superfood like I did just open and throw it in the blender (without the capsule).
Some tips to make any smoothie more winter proof are:
- Try to avoid frozen fruit.
- Replace cold water with lukewarm (room temperature) water.
- Avoid ice cubes.
- Add warming superfoods such as ginger.
