Description

Create a holiday home with this Christmas simmer pot blend. This safe and toxic-free stovetop potpourri will infuse the air with a warming and festive December scent. You can use this Christmas simmer pot for several days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 apple, sliced
  • 1/2 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • 3 star anise
  • 2 cups water (enough to fill your pot 3/4 with water)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Begin by slicing the oranges and apples into slices.
  2. Combine the sliced oranges, sliced apples, whole cloves, fresh cranberries, cinnamon sticks, rosemary sprigs, and star anise in a medium-sized pot.
  3. Pour in 2 cups of water, making sure that the ingredients are mostly submerged in the water.
  4. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the pot.
  5. Place the pot on the stove on low heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Be careful not to let it boil; a low simmer is sufficient to release the fragrances slowly.
  6. Once the pot is simmering, reduce the heat to the lowest setting to maintain a steady fragrance release.
  7. Keep an eye on the water level and add more water as needed to prevent it from drying out.
  8. Allow the simmer pot to infuse your home with the delightful scents of oranges, apples, cloves, cranberries, cinnamon, rosemary, and star anise.
  9. Enjoy and feel free to adjust the ingredient quantities based on your preference.

Notes

  • This simmer pot will last about 5 days.
  • Keep an eye on the water level, and add water as necessary to maintain the fragrance and avoid the ingredients from burning.
  • Once simmering for a few hours, let it cool, cover the pot, and allow it to sit on the turned-off stove until the following day. Uncover, bring it to a simmer again, and replenish with fresh water as necessary.
  • For a longer-lasting simmer pot experience, refrigerate the pot of ingredients (after the liquid cools) between uses, adding fresh ingredients and water as needed, for up to 7 days.
  • When you are done with the simmer pot, strain out the liquid and dispose or compost the used ingredients.
  • Double or triple the recipe for a bigger simmer pot.
