It seems that just when I’m about to enjoy summer, the end is almost near. This summer I have been enjoying a lot of frozen treats, and August is only getting better with these green smoothie popsicles. Let’s enjoy those summer days, because September is just a few weeks away! Summer 2019 flew by, don’t you think?

This summer, I have been working more than previous summers. So I tried to make those summer days as pleasant as possible while fighting the worrisome heatwave that we had to endure in Europe. A way to do so was with ”anything frozen”. The idea to freeze my smoothies was something I wanted to try with a batch of leftover smoothie. If I can keep it later in the fridge, why not freeze it, right?

It was a great idea! These popsicles are refreshing, healthy and taste like an actual treat. These small breaks, where I enjoy a smoothie popsicle with a good book, are the reason why I have been able to get stuff done the past weeks.

What kind of green smoothies can I freeze?

Any green smoothie you like, my friend! That’s so amazing about this recipe. The only thing you need is a stainless steel popsicle mold and of course your good old blender.

Can I use frozen produce?

The only thing that I will not advise you to do is to refreeze any greens (or maybe even fruits?). I don’t think it is safe to refreeze spinach for example. The spinach will be slightly heated and probably also thawed in the blender. I always get a bit uncomfortable to freeze anything more than once. So that’s totally up to you. But I personally avoid using frozen greens for this recipe.

These smoothie popsicles are an amazing breakfast for those super-hot days. I would suggest to have a few of these popsicles then, since one would be really too small to be considered a breakfast. But hey, if it works for you, go for it! I personally prefer to enjoy a popsicle as a mid-morning snack.

These green smoothie popsicles are a cold, creamy, sweet treat with delicious and whole food plant-based ingredients, such as mango, cashews and spinach. And the parsley? Trust me on that one! You will not even be able to taste it, but will reap all the benefits this amazing herb has to offer.

A smoothie but then oh so creamy…

The yogurt and cashews give these popsicle that irresistible creaminess. Without these ingredients these green smoothie popsicles will be too plain and too watery. The banana will also contribute to the creaminess and will add some sweetness too. If you however, would like to create a sweeter green popsicle I can highly recommend adding a few pitted Medjool dates.

All you have to do now is freeze as many popsicles as you can to enjoy. After all, summer is still here.

These green smoothie popsicles are the perfect (summer) snack or quick breakfast on the go. All you have to do is turn this green smoothie recipe into a cold popsicle treat.


  • 1/2 cup (unsweetened) almond- or soy milk
  • 1/2 cup (unsweetened) soy yogurt
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup mango chunks
  • a good handful spinach
  • a handful of parsley
  • 1 tbsp (unsweetened and unsalted) cashews
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • chia seeds for sprinkling
  • optional for extra sweetness: a few pitted Medjool dates


Place all the ingredients in a blender or food processor.

Blend until smooth. Taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding a few Medjool dates, if necessary. I find the flavor less intense and less sweet once the smoothie is frozen, so keep that in mind.

Pour the mixture into your popsicle molds. Add chia seeds to the bottom of the popsicle before closing. I love these stainless molds!

Insert popsicle sticks. I use wooden sticks.

Place in freezer to chill for at least 6 hours, or overnight.
