Green Grapefruit Smoothie

This green grapefruit smoothie is a simple, tart-sweet smoothie with grapefruit, celery and a little ginger kick. Naturally sweetened with apples and bananas.

This time of the year it can be a challenge to find dark leafy greens. Sometimes I will have a warming porridge instead. Celery is one of my favorite greens and some people class celery as a leafy vegetable. This could be a point of discussion, but what is true is the fact that the leaves are healthy and can be eaten too. I experimented a bit and ended up with this green grapefruit smoothie. And it was goooood!

The best part is that this smoothie is very simple to make. It takes just a few ingredients and without even using leafy greens you are blending up a green smoothie with the same health benefits as a full blown green smoothie.

Grapefruit

Since I’m a huge grapefruit fan I normally enjoy grapefruit just as it is. Or let me be really honest, I preferably cut my grapefruit above the kitchen sink and devour it right there. However, with spring in my mind I wanted to (just like last year) experiment a bit more with grapefruit. I have for example been using pure grapefruit juice in my smoothies more often. It makes any smoothie instantly fresh, and not too sweet or too bitter.

Celery

Celery is probably one of my favorite veggies. I love the ”salty” taste.

So you might wonder how this combination will taste?

  • It is light and refreshing
  • Creamy because of the bananas and apples
  • Lightly sweet
  • Slightly tart
  • Simple and fast to make

This green grapefruit smoothie is a simple, tart-sweet smoothie with grapefruit, celery and a little ginger kick. Naturally sweetened with apples and bananas.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 400 ml grapefruit juice
  • 1/4 cucumber
  • 2 small bananas
  • 4 big celery stalks
  • one piece of ginger
  • one apple
  • one teaspoon wheatgrass powder (optional)
  • herbs such as parsley or coriander

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender (including reserved grapefruit juice) and blend until creamy and smooth. Add more liquid if too thick.
